California is known for a lot of things. One of them is their desire to help save as many animals as they possibly can. Due to this there are several different animal sanctuaries throughout the state. Here’s a quick look at two of those animal sanctuaries found within the Orange County area.

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary

Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Silverado, California. This non-profit nature preserve sits right on the outskirts of the ever so popular Orange County. It is one of the only rural nature centers in this area. The mission of this sanctuary is twofold.

First, they want to support education that revolves around science and the environment. Second, they want to be a sanctuary that helps with the preservation of local wildlife.

Unlike many sanctuaries, this one is actually open to the public. They also offer guided tours and other educational programs for children. You can learn more about Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary visit them online at www.TuckerWildlife.org.

Pacific Marine Mammal Center

Pacific Marine Mammal Center, also referred to as PMMC, is a safe haven for sea life animals. It is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating marine animals that have been stranded on the coastlines of Orange County.

Once rehabilitated, PMMC will release the animal back into their natural habitat. Their goal is to increase the awareness of the public and educate them on the marine environment.

The public is welcome to visit the center from 10am to 4pm every day of the week. And don't worry, it is free to visit. You can also bring in your classroom for a field trip.

PMMC is located in Laguna Beach on Laguna Canyon Road. You can learn more about the center visit them online at www.PacificMMC.org. There you will be able to find out more about their community programs and volunteer programs.
