Caption: Dana Point Harbor — undergoing a multi-year revitalization
Dana Point Harbor is the centerpiece of the City of Dana Point — and its multi-year revitalization project is transforming it into a world-class coastal hub.
What’s Changing in the Harbor
New dining & retail village with chef-driven restaurants
Expanded marina facilities with modern slips and amenities
Pedestrian-friendly walkways and public gathering areas
More events and programming year-round
Construction of the new marina began on August 4, 2022, led by The Marina at Dana Point. The redevelopment features modern docks and slips, strategically divided into 15 phases for efficient progress.
On July 1, 2025, the final phase of the West Basin Island opened for occupancy, marking the completion of eight phases (50%) and the introduction of 1,115 brand-new slips.
Most recently, Phase 9 opened for occupancy on October 1, 2025, introducing the Dock of the Harvest Lantern and Dock of the Lavender Lantern. Phase 10 is scheduled to begin demolition on October 6, 2025.
Phases 1 and 2 of the Commercial Core project included the construction of a three-tiered parking structure, underground utility infrastructure, and the new harbor entrance at the intersection of Golden Lantern and Dana Point Harbor Drive. These concurrent phases began on March 1, 2024, and were completed on July 2, 2025.
With these initial phases now complete, Phase 3 of the Commercial Core is scheduled to begin in late 2025. This next stage will focus on redevelopment along the waterfront buildings, further enhancing the visitor experience.
By executing the project in carefully planned phases, the harbor remains open and accessible to the public throughout construction, ensuring minimal disruption to parking, businesses, and shared spaces.
The brand-new harbor entrance at Golden Lantern and the Dana Point Harbor Parking Structure are officially open to the public. Full access to harbor shops and restaurants as well as boater and customer parking is available.
For buyers and sellers, this project represents both lifestyle upgrades and increased property value potential.
Homes within walking distance to the harbor (Lantern District: Lantern Bay Estates, Dana Bluffs) are seeing increased demand.
Investors anticipate a “Harbor premium” once the project is complete.
Sellers should emphasize proximity to future amenities in their listings.
