Turtle Rock is one of the five original "villages" which initially formed the City of Irvine in 1967. This fact is memorialized today by the sculpture of a turtle that still stands in Turtle Rock Community Park. Turtle Rock & Turtle Ridge homes for sale offer prospective buyers close proximity to Newport Beach with a family oriented community. The City of Irvine is consistently rated as one of the safest cities in the country, as well as one of the top places to live. There can be little doubt that the Turtle Rock area plays a significant role in this designation, simply because it is one of the most desirable villages in the city.
Logistically speaking, Turtle Rock & Turtle Ridge real estate is found in the San Joaquin Hills of Irvine. While the highest peak in the neighborhood may sometimes be called Turtle Rock, this is not technically correct since that hill hasn't been given an official name. In point of fact, it is no longer completely clear from whence the name "Turtle Rock" derives. However, there is a distinctive rocky projection located near Rockview Drive in the community. This rocky area bears a similar shape to the front of a turtle's exterior shell. This ledge was originally considered a sacred point for the Gabrieleño Native American tribes who lived in the area hundreds of years ago. All of these factors could be the intriguing reason that lurks behind the origin of the name "Turtle Rock."
The weather in Irvine-and by extension, in Turtle Rock & Turtle Ridge-is beautiful all year long, creating highly desirable real estate. Since the area typically enjoys a Mediterranean climate, like most of the southern California coast, the outdoors can be enjoyed all year long. Summers in this area range from warm to hot, while the winter weather is never more than cool. Most of the rainfall in this region comes during the winter months, and the seasons of spring and fall are as nice as summer in many other parts of the country!
Several of the schools within the Irvine Unified School District (or IUSD) are actually located in the Turtle Rock & Turtle Ridge community. These include Turtle Rock Elementary School, Bonita Canyon Elementary School, and University High School. It is worth noting that all of the Irvine high schools are rated within the top 4% of high schools in the United States. Elementary and middle schools are also available throughout the city, with the aforementioned schools found directly in Turtle Rock. Many families are also pleased to note that there are two additional alternate schools, Plaza Vista School and Vista Verde School, offering kindergarten through 8th grade education in the area. Of course, the University of California at Irvine-with all of its excellent undergraduate and graduate offerings--is located right in the city of Irvine, itself. In addition, the private Concordia University is found right in the Turtle Rock community.
For anyone who enjoys first-rate shopping, Turtle Rock & Turtle Ridge are ideally located to take full advantage of everything Irvine provides. There are a variety of options between Irvine's two world-renowned and first-rate shopping centers: South Coast Plaza and Fashion Island. With the variety provided by these two prime locations, shoppers can select between retail establishments that include the highly upscale shops, cutting-edge trendy chains, and charming, exclusive boutiques. Should any family find itself in need of activities that can help to occupy the kids during a lengthy shopping afternoon, they should certainly take the opportunity to visit the Irvine Spectrum Center. At this exciting facility, visitors will find all the best shops, tastiest restaurants, and engaging entertainment to keep any group of kids actively involved. In fact, there is even a Ferris Wheel and an actual ice skating rink on the premises at the Irvine Spectrum Center... and all of these wonderful activities are strategically located in an outdoor, perfectly landscaped area that is handy to the mall.
The City of Irvine has championship golf courses in the surrounding area, including the aforementioned Strawberry Farms Golf Club next to Turtle Rock. There is also a tremendous assortment of locally available cultural and artistic activities for residents of Irvine and Turtle Rock. The Irvine Fine Arts Center, which offers free parking and a scenic location near a lagoon, provides exhibitions and performances year-round, as well as a broad range of art classes available for children, youth, and adults.
The city offers a complement of twenty community parks to go along with thirty-four neighborhood parks, so wherever a Turtle Ridge resident may roam in Irvine, there are sure to be plenty of open spaces, just as there are an abundance of places to go and things to do. Irvine also offers some of the best-maintained and most impressive sporting facilities in all of Southern California. There are reserved fields available for residents and local teams to enjoy baseball, softball, soccer, and other team sports, while tennis courts and a skate park are also on hand. All of the facilities are managed through the City of Irvine Community Services Department.
Turtle Rock & Turtle Ridge residents who own pets are happy to note the presence of the local Animal Care Center in Irvine. This clinic provides a broad range of animal services, including licensing and adoption. The Animal Care Center also organizes activities such as a community "Pet Trek" each year for families and their beloved animals. Volunteering and service options abound in the City of Irvine, and are available to match almost any humanitarian interest.
