Attraction Spotlight: Port Theater
Port Theater is Orange County’s premiere luxury theater that first opened in September 1949. It was once the most happening settings in Corona del Mar before Fashion Island and John Wayne Airport had opened. It was a place that allowed you to bring food in, smoke inside and tickets were under $2.
The young and the old found the Port Theater enjoyable at this time and when more multiplex theaters began opening up, the business was forced to recreate itself. Ownership was transferred and movies were more artistic selections but the theater closed in 1998 due to financial struggles. Here is a look at what’s happened since reopening in 2012.
History
The Port Theater has experienced the “Greatest Show on Earth” with a live elephant on stage, competing with Fashion Island and John Wayne Airport openings in 1967, the first couple marrying on stage in 1985 and even midnight screenings in 1990. The theater closed for over a decade after having multiple owners and remodeling taking place but ever since reopening in 2012, the Port Theater has offered a one-of-a-kind experience.
Menu
While enjoying a flick at the Port Theater, you can enjoy a menu of excellent drink options. They serve ice cold beer, champagne, fine wine and top shelf cocktails. You can go upstairs to get a drink at the full bar plus they offer a kitchen with gourmet foods. Everyone loves the Port Dogs, made-to-order pizzas, hot buttered popcorn and fresh baked cookies. Try a custom expresso drink as well.
Luxury Experience
Along with offering a delicious menu while watching the film, you will love their boutique-style move theater experience. The theater is full of leather seats, sofas, recliners and convenient side tables for snacking. The friendly staff greets you open entering the theater and you’ll love their unique custom layout. They even offer their venue as a rental option for your special event.
